We offer a hands-on monaka making experience in the historic Japanese house “Hyoseki-kaku.” By assembling this traditional sweet with your own hands, you’ll enjoy a casual yet meaningful encounter with Japanese confectionery culture.

Available exclusively to guests staying at Hakone Retreat villa 1/f, our monaka making experience takes place inside the registered cultural property “Hyoseki.” With a selection of sweet pastes and seasonal ingredients, you’ll build your own unique monaka—a traditional Japanese sweet made of crispy wafers and flavorful fillings.

Though the process is simple, the care you put into each step adds a special sense of ownership to the final result.

The setting itself is part of the experience: a refined, historic Japanese residence where architecture, nature, and tradition quietly meet. It’s a wonderful opportunity for international guests or anyone curious to explore Japanese culture through doing.
